This photo makes me both angry AND sad. It’s the Piper Alpha memorial in Hazlehead Park in Aberdeen. If you don’t know anything about the Piper Alpha disaster, then click here, but be assured it was an event which left a permanent mark on the pysche of the North East of Scotland. It was the 20th anniversary of the disaster in 2008 and the radio station I worked for at the time produced a documentary to mark the date. It was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever been involved in, the stories were just heartbreaking. It’s not a great picture, but you can see it was a nice day when it was taken. What you can’t see is me, behind the camera, weeping.
